Centro Guadalupano

At the heart of ministry is relationship

Volunteer

Centro Guadalupano relies heavily on volunteers to carry out our programs. Thank you to all of our volunteers! If you are a volunteer or would like to volunteer, please view the opportunities posted below.

ESL Volunteersa

Volunteers in the ESL program teach one day a week for a two-hour period. Class levels range from pre-literacy to high intermediate in the morning and low beginner to high intermediate in the evening. Each session the ESL program has 50 or more volunteers teaching their own class or as a substitute.

Training Requirements

All volunteers are required to have 12 hours of Pre-Service training or the equivalent. The Minnesota Literacy Council offers this training year-round. Volunteers are also required to have 4 hours of in-service training each year. Centro Guadalupano offers 2 2-hour in-service trainings each year to fulfill this requirement. In-service trainings are also offered through the Minnesota Literacy Council on a variety of subjects.

Youth Programming Volunteers

Volunteers interested in working with youth can do so through the following programs.

After School Program

Tutors are needed to work one-on-one with students from 1:30-4:30pm, Monday-Thursday during the school year. Volunteers are also needed during that time to prepare snacks and perform other tasks as needed.

Music Lesson Assistant

Volunteers are needed to assist the instructor during group guitar and singing lessons. Classes are held Monday evenings, 6-8pm during the school year.

Summer Camp Assistant

Each year, Centro Guadalupano offers a two week cultural summer camp. Participants play games, take dance and music lessons and go on field trips. Volunteers are needed to help supervise youth, set up activities and prepare meals. The 2012 Summer camp dates are to be determined.

Training Requirements

All volunteers working with youth are required to attend the VIRTUS training program offered through the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis. The training is offered at various times and locations throughout the Twin Cities.

For tutors, we recommend Children's Literacy Tutor Training offered through the Minnesota Literacy Council. A schedule of dates is available on their website.
